Exporting from Sleep Cycle

The export is five taps deep, in a menu you have to know where to find. Here is the path on iOS, with a picture of each screen. Android should be similar.

Time: about a minute. The red ring on each picture is the thing to tap.

You can also view Sleep Cycle's instructions here.

  1. Open Sleep Cycle and tap Profile

It is the last tab in the row along the bottom, on the right.

The bottom of the Sleep Cycle home screen. The tab bar reads Sleep, Programs, Journal, Statistics, Profile; Profile, on the right, is circled in red.
  2. Scroll down and tap “••• More”

Profile opens on your totals — nights recorded, average time, backup. Keep scrolling until ou reach the “More” row, under Weekly report.

The end of the Profile screen's Settings list: Sleep school, Weekly report, and then a last row of three dots followed by the word More, circled in red.
  3. Tap Account

First row on the More screen, under the heading Personal.

The top of the More screen. Under the heading Personal the rows read Account, About you, Consent and privacy; Account is circled in red.
  4. Tap Export data

Fourth in the list of blue links, under Log out.

Read the row before you tap it. The two rows underneath are red and they erase your sleep history. Export data is the last of the blue ones.

The Account screen. A list of blue links reads Restore purchase, Manage account, Log out, Export data, and then two red links beginning Erase your data. Export data is circled in red.
  5. Send yourself the file

Sleep Cycle builds the file — sleepdata.csv, a plain text file, a couple of hundred kilobytes — and hands it to the usual iOS share sheet. Two of those options are the ones you want:

    • AirDrop, if you are going to finish on a Mac. The file lands in Downloads, then you can format it with Chart My Sleep.
    • Copy, which puts the contents of the file on your clipboard. Paste it straight into the box here to process it. If your Mac and your phone are signed in to the same Apple account, a copy from the phone can be pasted on the Mac.

Every export is your whole history, not just the nights since last time. That is why our tool tells you to paste over the top of the old rows rather than underneath them.

The iOS share sheet for a file called sleepdata, a text document of 148 KB. Two buttons are circled in red: AirDrop, in the row of apps, and Copy, in the row of actions below it.

Congrats, you've exported your sleep data

Drop it into the box on the tool, or paste the text in. The rows come back formatted for the chart template, and nothing in the file leaves your own device.
